Loretta Monique is fotograaf en mensenrechtenactivist. Haar werk ontspringt uit een diepe nieuwsgierigheid naar de onzichtbare grenzen die onze wereld vormen, de onuitgesproken regels over wie erbij hoort en hoe we geacht worden te bestaan. Met haar lens verkent ze thema’s als identiteit, verbondenheid en sociale rechtvaardigheid, en creëert ze verhalen die zowel persoonlijk als universeel resoneren.
“Van 2021 tot 2022 woonde ik in Palestina, een keuze die voelde als protest: aanwezig zijn, getuigen en verhalen vastleggen die vaak overschaduwd worden door eenzijdige berichtgeving over geweld en conflict. Met Postcards from Palestine leg ik intieme momenten en stille details van het dagelijks leven vast. Door mijn beelden op ansichtkaartformaat te presenteren, nodig ik de kijker uit dichtbij te komen en de menselijkheid te zien die in veel media verloren gaat. Mijn werk toont Palestijnen als individuen met dromen, gezinnen en verlangens, en vormt zo een visueel protest tegen ontmenselijking en vergetelheid.”

Loretta Monique is a photographer and human rights activist. Her work stems from a deep curiosity about the invisible boundaries that shape our world, the unspoken rules of who belongs and how we are expected to exist. Through her lens she explores themes of identity, belonging, and social justice, creating stories that resonate as both personal and universal.
”From 2021 to 2022 I lived in Palestine, a choice that felt like a form of protest: to be present, to witness, and to document stories that are often overshadowed by one-sided reporting on violence and conflict. With Postcards from Palestine I capture intimate moments and quiet details of everyday life. By presenting my images in postcard format, I invite the viewer to come closer and to see the humanity that is so often lost in mainstream media. My work portrays Palestinians as individuals with dreams, families, and desires, and thus becomes a visual protest against dehumanization and forgetting.”
